Planning a lesson involves much more than choosing a topic. There are activities to design, materials to adapt and exercises to prepare for learners with different needs. That work can continue long after the teaching day has ended.
A first encounter with ChatGPT can feel promising. The next step is understanding how to apply it to a gastronomy workshop, a mechanics lesson or a marketing class. Teachers need practical support that connects AI with their subject knowledge, teaching objectives and classroom realities.
This is the everyday challenge behind AI4VET. We want to help educators make preparation more manageable and use AI purposefully in vocational education and training.
The Edu-AI Toolkit provides practical guidance for selecting AI tools, planning lessons and developing learning activities that teachers can adapt to their vocational subjects.
The Intelligent Empowerment Tutor is being developed as a digital assistant supporting teachers in using AI for personalised learning and adapting materials to different learner needs.
The Future Classroom Labs focus on putting these approaches into practice. The aim is to create learning environments where educators can explore how technology supports practical training, active participation and flexible teaching methods.
For teachers, the potential value lies in everyday tasks: developing an initial lesson outline, finding a starting point for an exercise or exploring ways to explain a topic more clearly. These drafts can then be reviewed and adapted using the educator’s knowledge of the subject and the learners.
Teachers’ expertise remains central. Educators set the learning objectives, check the accuracy and relevance of materials and decide what works for their group. AI can support parts of the preparation process while teachers guide the learning experience.
Our ambition is to help reduce repetitive preparation work and create more room for the parts of teaching that need personal attention: supporting learners, discussing their progress and developing meaningful practical activities.
Your experience matters in this process. Understanding the tasks that take up teachers’ time helps us connect project resources with real teaching needs.
